Do you think the American Dream can ever happen in Singapore?
What is the American Dream?

The American Dream is a national ethos of the United States, the set of ideals (democracy, rights, liberty, opportunity, and equality) in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success, and an upward social mobility for the family and children, achieved through hard work in a society with few barriers. In the definition of the American Dream by James Truslow Adams in 1931, "life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement" regardless of social class or circumstances of birth.

How does Singapore fare?

Democracy - We never have a alternative party ruling the country before, not even close. There is no equal chance of reign in Singapore. There is never an election in Singapore as close as Hillary and Trump before. We all know how oppositions get fixed. We give it 1/5.

Rights - We certainly have human rights and we obey the geneva and vienna convention. 2 most common possession - house and cars. We have no rights to our house (even landed unless it is estate in fee simple) and especially the HDB which can be repossessed if we do something illegal in there. We have no rights to our car too, we have one of the strictest car modification rule and it doesn't belong to us after 10 years. Just to name a few, our rights are pretty limited. We give is 2/5.

Liberty - Singapore is a "fine" city. Because we rely on punishment to enforce patriotism, you are forced to serve the army, you obey all rules and regulation strictly and there is no room for mistake because we have a very unforgiving system that never forget. We behave through doctrine and not because we really like the country, this clearly shows our education system have failed badly. It is impossible to be creative here because we are too scared to make mistake. We give it 1/5.

Opportunity - No doubt the government did a great job on securing our jobs and have a very peaceful approach on maintaining racial harmony. Take a look at little India where they only have indian shops, same as geyland serai for malays and chinatown for chineses only. Why can't we distribute it equally and fully maximise the potential of these small towns for bigger profit? We give it 4/5

Equality - Students whom studied at good primary school or secondary school already determine their life's path. The rich are simply getting richer, this is undeniable and for this, we give 2/5.

Total we get 10/25. Singapore will never build an American Dream like city, people come here to work will be temporary and will not find a sense a belonging. As sad as we are, our country can only be as good as a transitional place for people to make use and to make use of others. We get the foreigners to buy expensive cove properties, in turn we give them citizenship and good banking facility. The rich foreigners know Singapore make use of them and do the necessary then they move out again. Their main activities will never take place here because it is like a business deal and not a genuine relationship. This is something we need to start pondering about.
Why do you want American Dream with it is so messy now? You should read the post by jiahe It is very good to keep our country strict and understand our geographical location is much different as the USA.
It should be Singaporeans dream, Why do you think American dream happen in Singapore.
