I may not be able to answer as to how 42 is the answer to the Ultimate question (which is a mystery in itself), but here are some mind-blowing facts :

1. It is believed that if you take any regular sheet of paper and fold it in half (which will double it's thickness), then again fold it in half...and continue this for 42 times, then that is enough to reach the moon from the Earth.

Note : This is a theoritical concept because each time you fold a piece of paper you double the number of sheet's thickness. So after 7 foldings it is 2^7= 128 sheets thick, beyond which it is not possible to fold.

Having said that just calculate 2^42, to get an intution that it is possible. (atleast on paper)

2. "Pronic number"

Any number derived as a product of two consecutive integers is a pronic number. (6 times 7 is indeed 42)

3. "Primary Pseudoperfect number "

A primary pseudoperfect number is a number such that when the prime factors of the number are inverted and added to the inverse of the number itself, they add up to the number one.

(Adding up the inverse of 2, 3, 7 & 42 gives us 1)

4. "Harshad number"

Any integer divisible by the sum of its individual digits is a harshad number. (42 is divisible by sum of 4 & 2)

Perhaps we may not be able to figure out the Ultimate question itself & how it is correlated to 42, but it can't be denied that the number 42 is mystical in itself !
